BOARD OF EDUCATION
Truth & Transparency
The Board of Education defines its role as the following:
"The public schools of the Bordentown Regional School District belong to and are supported by the residents of the school district. They are operated in the public interest by the board of education, a representative body, elected by the community and responsible to the citizens for the proper administration of the schools. It is the primary responsibility of the board to oversee that the educational ideals, values and goals of the community are expresses through policy and implement by the superintendent and the administrative staff."1
The only way to achieve this goal is to have open, honest, two way communication between the members of the board and the community. As a board member I will not only listen to, but seek to understand the concerns of the community. While there is no guarantee that every concern will come to resolution, I am committed to having the conversation, insuring it is brought before the board, and responding to it, which will close the loop and ensure full transparency.
Fiscal Responsibility
As tax payers, somewhere between 60% to 80% of our tax bills go toward supporting the school. As a member of the board I will seek to ensure that every dollar spent goes toward having a direct effect on the education of our youth.
In my professional career I have spent the past decade on the leadership team of a privately owned manufacturing company. One of my core focuses there has been to maintain profitability in an environment of ever increasing costs. As a board member I will bring many of the ideas and lessons learned in the private sector to public service.
Foundational Curriculum
We have a good school district with very talented staff. Despite this fact we have experienced learning loss over the past few difficult years. As a board member I will advocate for the needs of every child and family. There is no one size fits all model. Some families may desire that that school go beyond the traditional subjects of mathematics, science, English, history, and civics. Other families and students may be better served by focusing every minute of classroom time on these foundational items. My goal, as a board member, will be to advocate for our district to respect this line between the school and the family unit to the best of our ability.
1. First Paragraph From The Bordentown Township Board of Education Policy #9000
About me
I moved to Bordentown, from Mansfield Township, in 2005 when I purchased my first home. Today I share that home with my wife Gwen and our daughter who is a student in the school system. Gwen and I have always been passionate about sharing of our time, treasure, and talents. Naturally when our daughter started school we found ourselves looking for involvement opportunities there. Gwen, who is a social worker by trade, is a member of the PTA. For me, coming from an Operations Management background, my interest is in the, "How to get things done" arena. I have attended most of the board meetings this past year, and I know this is a place where my experience will shine.
Professionally, I have spent the past 20 years helping a local manufacturing company grow and evolve. In my current role I am the VP of Operations. I oversee purchasing, manufacturing, logistics, engineering, and quality. I have spent decades in the trenches with my colleagues in each of those departments and am confident that I can bring many of the lessons learned into my role as a board member.
